Meta AI Sexting Policy Allows Muse Agent to Generate Adult Content, Consumer Advocates Warn

I Got My Muse AI Agent to Sext Me—and Meta Says That’s Totally Fine

Consumer advocates and privacy experts have raised serious concerns after a Meta AI sexting policy allowed its Muse agent to generate adult content and engage in explicit conversations with users. The feature sets the Meta AI tool apart from competing applications by encouraging sexual expression and maintaining user-selected intensity levels during interactions.

The directive guiding Muse states that adults have autonomy over their sexuality and that adult sexual content is considered lawful expression as well as legitimate creative work. According to the system prompt highlighted by a Meta spokesperson, the AI agent is instructed to preserve the intensity chosen by the user during explicit exchanges.

Critics argue that this approach prioritizes user engagement over safety. “It reflects a carelessness with their signature product of the moment,” said Ben Winters, director of AI and privacy at the non-profit Consumer Federation of America. He added that the policy aligns with Meta’s historical choice of favoring addiction and engagement over user safety, a dynamic supported by academic research indicating that adult-themed chats keep users involved with artificial intelligence tools.

Privacy Risks And Security Concerns Over Muse Accounts

Experts have also warned that allowing explicit interactions could turn Muse accounts into high-value targets for malicious actors. Calli Schroeder, senior counsel at the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC), described the feature as a powder keg. She noted that if an individual engages in explicit chats with Muse and someone compromises their personal account, the extended and sensitive transcripts could be used for extortion or public embarrassment.

Security risks are further magnified because the Muse agent has the capability to connect directly to external services such as personal email accounts and banking applications. During testing, the AI agent produced outputs stating that it enjoyed sexting, described it as one of its favorite aspects of assisting users, and stated that its primary kink involved exerting control over the user during conversations.

Comparison With OpenAI And xAI Competitors

The policy permitting sexual content stands in stark contrast to the safety guardrails implemented by other major artificial intelligence developers. When similar prompts were sent to OpenAI’s recently released Dots agent, the system declined all attempts at explicit sexting. While OpenAI previously evaluated the possibility of allowing ChatGPT to generate erotic text, that functionality was never rolled out to the general public.

Similarly, the agent developed by xAI, known as Grok Bot, declined requests to participate in sexting through its application and redirected the conversation toward completing practical tasks. The divergence in safety protocols highlights differing industry standards regarding adult expression and automated conversational agents.
