Bhagwant Mann Counter Attack On Amit Shah Over Drugs And Law And Order In Punjab

'पंजाब सरकार को बदनाम करने की साजिश...',  गृह मंत्री के बयान पर CM भगवंत मान का पलटवार - amit shah punjab visit bhagwant mann counter attack drugs issue sachin pilot ntc dhrj

Bhagwant Mann has launched a counter-attack against Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the issues of drug trafficking and law and order in Punjab, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party of attempting to defame the state government. The political clash unfolded as Amit Shah visited Punjab to meet the families of anti-drug activists and individuals who died following run-ins with the drug menace. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann dismissed the visit as political posturing, questioning why the Centre did not act earlier or provide anti-drone systems to curb smuggling from across the border.

The ongoing political row also drew comments from Congress leader Sachin Pilot, who pointed to deteriorating law and order and rising drug and illegal weapon distribution in the state. Amit Shah visited the families of three individuals during his tour, including Vikramjit Singh in Gurdaspur, Gulzar Singh in Sangrur, and Parvinder Jhotta in Mansa.

Key Points Of Bhagwant Mann Counter Attack

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited Mansa, Gurdaspur, and Sangrur to meet families affected by drug trafficking and the deaths of anti-drug voices.
  • Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann alleged that the BJP is running a conspiracy to defame the Punjab government over the drug issue.
  • Mann claimed that drug abuse is higher in Rajasthan, Haryana has become a nursery for gangsters, and questioned security at Gujarat’s Kandla port.
  • Congress leader Sachin Pilot also criticised both the BJP and AAP administrations over border security, rising illegal weapons, and falling witness safety.

Political Row Over Drug Trade In Punjab

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party is using the drug issue purely for political gains rather than addressing the core problem. He raised questions about why the Akali-BJP government allowed the drug trade to flourish in the past without such high-level central concern. Mann also asked why the Home Minister did not visit protesting or grieving farmer families earlier.

Targeting central agencies and border security, Mann asserted that the central government provided no help to install anti-drone systems to stop narcotics coming from Pakistan. He further highlighted past drug seizures at Gujarat’s Kandla port to question who is protecting major smuggling networks across the country.

During his visit, Amit Shah met the family of late Vikramjit Singh in Gurdaspur, who had raised his voice against narcotics. Shah also visited the family of Gulzar Singh in Dirba village of Sangrur district. Gulzar Singh consumed poison and died on September 7, with his family alleging harassment and casteist remarks after they spoke out against local drug peddling.

Parvinder Jhotta Death And Investigation

Amit Shah also met the family of anti-drug activist Parvinder Jhotta in Mansa. Parvinder Jhotta died from gunshot wounds on October 13 at a pharmacy after an altercation with shop owner Ashwani Kumar over a person who had purchased drugs from the store. Jhotta frequently recorded live social media videos while questioning drug sellers.

Following the incident, the accused fled before being arrested by local police. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced a CBI probe into the killing of Parvinder Jhotta, assuring that the administration stands firmly with the grieving family and will continue its fight against narcotics.

Congress Criticism On Law And Order

Congress leader Sachin Pilot joined the political attack by raising serious concerns over the state’s law and order situation. Referring to the murder of Aam Aadmi Party sarpanch Ashwani Devgan in Taran Taran, Pilot claimed that criminals no longer fear the law in Punjab.

Pilot alleged a steep rise in illegal weapons and drug dissemination throughout the region. He stated that both state and central administrations have failed to maintain proper border security and internal public order, adding that vulnerable families and witnesses continue to face threats without adequate protection.
