4. Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • For Data Entry Operator (DEO)/DEO Grade ‘A’ in Department/ Ministry other than C&AG and PA/SA, LDC, JSA: Candidates must have passed 12th Standard or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University.
  • For Data Entry Operator (DEO Grade ‘A’) in the Office of Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG) and Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, and Ministry of Culture: Candidates must have passed 12th Standard in Science stream with Mathematics as a subject from a recognized Board or equivalent.

Age Limit

As on the crucial date mentioned in the official notification (expected to be 1st January 2027):

Nationality

A candidate must be either:

  1. A citizen of India, or
  2. A subject of Nepal, or
  3. A subject of Bhutan, or
  4. A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
  5. A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.

6. Exam Fees

The application fees for SSC CHSL 2027 are expected to be as follows:

  • General/OBC Male Candidates: To be announced (Expected: ₹100/-)

7. Exam Pattern

The SSC CHSL 2027 examination will consist of two tiers:

Tier-I: Computer Based Examination

  • Tier-I will consist of Objective Type Multiple Choice questions.
  • The questions will be set both in English and Hindi for Sections I, II and IV.

Tier-II: Computer Based Examination and Skill Test/Typing Test

Tier-II will comprise of three sections having two modules each. The exam will be conducted in a single session.

  • There will be a negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer in Section-I, Section-II, and Module-I of Section-III.

    • Mensuration: Triangle, Quadrilaterals, Regular Polygons, Circle, Right Prism, Right Circular Cone, Right Circular Cylinder, Sphere, Hemispheres, Rectangular Parallelepiped, Regular Right Pyramid with triangular or square base.
    • Trigonometry: Trigonometry, Trigonometric ratios, Complementary angles, Height and distances (simple problems only) Standard Identities like sin²θ + Cos²θ=1 etc.
    • Statistical Charts: Use of Tables and Graphs: Histogram, Frequency polygon, Bar-diagram, Pie-chart.
  • General Awareness:
    • Questions are designed to test the candidate’s general awareness of the environment around him and its application to society. Questions are also designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of any educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries especially pertaining to History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Policy & Scientific Research.

    • Vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms and their correct usage, error detection, fill in the blanks, cloze test, spotting errors, sentence rearrangement, idioms & phrases, one-word substitution, active/passive voice, direct/indirect narration, comprehension passages, Reading Comprehension, Para Jumbles.
  • Module-II of Section-II (General Awareness):
    • Questions designed to test the candidate’s general awareness of the environment around him and its application to society. Questions are also designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of any educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries especially pertaining to History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Policy & Scientific Research.
  • Module-I of Section-III (Computer Knowledge Test):
    • Computer Basics: Organization of a computer, Central Processing Unit (CPU), input/output devices, computer memory, memory organization, back-up devices, PORTs, Windows Explorer, Keyboard shortcuts.
    • Software: Windows Operating System including basics of Microsoft Office like MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
    • Working with Internet and E-mails: Web Browsing & Searching, Downloading & Uploading, Managing an E-mail Account, E-Banking.
    • Basics of Networking and Cyber Security: Networking devices and protocols, Network and information security threats (like hacking, virus, worms, Trojan, etc.), and preventive measures.
  • Module-II of Section-III (Skill Test/Typing Test):
    • Skill Test for Data Entry Operators (DEOs): Data Entry Speed of 8,000 Key Depressions per hour on Computer. The ‘speed of 8,000 key depressions per hour on computer’ will be adjudged on the basis of the correct entry of words/key depressions as per the given passage. Duration of the test will be 15 minutes.
    • Typing Test for LDC/JSA and PA/SA:
      • Medium of Typing Test: Hindi or English. Candidates opting for English medium should have a typing speed of 35 words per minute (w.p.m.). Candidates opting for Hindi medium should have a typing speed of 30 w.p.m. (35 w.p.m. corresponds to 10500 key depressions per hour and 30 w.p.m. corresponds to 9000 key depressions per hour).
      • Duration of the test will be 10 minutes.

Candidates will have to indicate their preferred choices for Examination Centers while filling out the online application form. 10. How to Apply

Aspirants for SSC CHSL 2027 must apply online through the official website of the Staff Selection Commission. Follow these steps:

  1. One-Time Registration:
    • Visit the official SSC website: ssc.nic.in
    • Click on the “Register Now” link on the homepage.
